Con Amor Margarita
Short/5min/NYC

Director: Brian Savelson
Produced by: DavidM and Jewelz Lopez
Starring: Jewelz Lopez
The story, “Con Amor, Margarita,” relayed in this stirring project is one of determination, aspiration, love and yearning – a narrative that immigrants in the United States can relate to only too well. The plot centers on Margarita, a beautiful, hardworking Latina woman who leaves her native country to pursue her dreams of becoming a singer and dancer in America. She leaves everything behind – her family, her friends, the scenic farmlands of her birth country, and most achingly, her lover. But upon arriving in America, she finds that things were not at all what she envisioned. She’s hindered by not being able to speak English, and can only find work doing what she did back in her native country – rolling tobacco to make cigars. The story culminates in a dream-like scene in which visions from Margarita’s past and future flash before her eyes. In this truly moving sequence, she sees glimpses of herself finally being liberated and attaining her life’s wish of becoming a famous performer. But even in this soaring reverie, she’s simultaneously tortured by intense feelings of longing for her country and the love she left behind. This transcendental moment ends with Margarita reciting a beautiful prayer that conveys the multiple, conflicting feelings swirling through her mind and heart.
